After much deliberation and with great excitement the Ausable Valley Hockey Association has made the decision to follow the lead of the Elgin Middlesex Canuck, Huron Perth Lakers and the London Jr Knights AAA to AA programs and host Spring Tryouts for U18A.
Tryouts for AVHA U18A will be held within the window defined by OHF starting the week of May 5, 2025.
A Complete Schedule will be posted early next week, but we currently have the following dates and times booked.
Tuesday May 6th – 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM – North Middlesex Arena.
Wednesday May 7th – 9:00 PM – 10:30 PM – Lucan Arena (Inter Squad Game).
Friday May 9th @ 8:30 PM Seaforth Arena
Saturday May 10th @ 6:30 PM Lucan Arena
Sunday May 11th @ 3:30 PM Seaforth Arena
Sunday May 11th @ 8:00 PM Lucan Arena
All dates and times may be subject to change based on booking of tryout games. Additional times may be added. Rosters for Inter Squad Game(s) and Exhibitions will be posted as early as possible to allow for planning.
AVHA U18A will be partnering with the Southwest Admirals (Mid-Huron, Mitchell, Goderich) for our tryouts this season. This is also their inaugural season as an A Association in the WOAA Regional A League.
If you are unable to attend any of the above dates due to work/school commitments, once you have registered for tryouts, please contact the coaching staff via email to notify us so we can try to work your schedule into ours.
If you are injured or sick during tryouts, once you have registered for tryouts, please contact the coaching staff via email to notify the nature of the injury and the anticipated timeline for return if during the tryout window.

Anticipated Season
- 24 to 30 league games, including interlock games with Alliance Teams
- 3/4 Scheduled Tournaments, two/three local, one away - including a Regional Silver Stick Tournament. US Tournament participation discussion will be had once team is selected.
- Additional Qualified Tournaments – International Silver Stick and/or OMHA Championships if team qualifies.
- 2 Practice Times per week (average)
- 1 Home Game per week (average)
- Additional Paid Ice over and above what is provided by AVHA will be scheduled in various locations throughout the season but will not exceed more than 8 sessions.
- Any “Last Minute” Practice Ice that is “picked up” from the AVHA will be non-mandatory, due to the infrequency.
- White Board/Video Sessions will be held prior to practices and notification will go out at least a week in advance when players will be required to be earlier than normal.
**** Junior Hockey Camps ****
Players that have been invited or are interested in attending Junior Hockey Camps are encouraged to do so, even if you have signed an Offer of Commitment with the AVHA U18A Team following our tryouts.
If a player attends a Junior Camp and is selected to the Junior Teams main roster, a release from the AVHA U18A team will be granted by the OMHA to the applicable OHA Junior Team.
Players are also be encouraged to attend these camps to obtain an Affiliate position with a Junior Team. The AVHA U18A coaching staff will be accommodating in managing and communicating with the team’s players that are affiliated with a Junior or AAA/AA club. Attending Games and Practices that affiliated players are asked to attend and are not conflicting with our own game and/or tournament schedules will also be strongly encouraged.
**** High School Sports and Other Sports ****
It is anticipated that all the U18A players will play another sport and/or wish to participate with their High School Hockey Teams. The AVHA U18A will not place any restrictions on players that wish to compete in other sports and/or their High School teams. However, we do expect that the player’s commitment to the AVHA U18A is maintained.
**** Fundraising and Sponsorship ****
The AVHA U18A Team will be actively looking for Team Sponsorship(s) and have already obtained some to help reduce Team Costs related to Tournaments, Additional Ice, Jerseys, Socks, etc. More information related to Fundraising and Sponsorship will be provided as it is made available.
