Team Building Day
The Novice Shamrock team got together for Team Building day by meeting at the Ilderton Fire Hall on Sat Dec 8th. The tour was given by Volunteer Firefighters Chad and Jamie who did a great job with the tour and added some fun events.

The day began by giving the kids a lesson on safety within the home (ie fire exit plans, fire alarms).  We started the tour by having the kids be shown what to do if their clothing happened to catch on fire (pictures included). As we continued the tour, fire fighter Chad showed the kids all the equipment on the truck that they use to put out fires or help at accident sights.

After this both Chad and Jamie showed the kids how to carry an injured person out of a house or along rough terrain.  Each kid on the team was carried the length of the fire hall by half the team. Until of course it was our team appointed mascot's (Lucas Van Steensel) turn, then whole team wanted to carry him!

Fire fighter Jamie than had a shoot out competition (since we are hockey players!).  Each team member had a turn with a fire hose to knock down 3 targets....it was a great success.

Throughout the tour the kids were very attentive and asked many questions, the kids behaved very well and thanked both Chad and Jamie for the great tour.

From there we went on to Komoka, were we rented the gym for an hour. For 15 minutes the coaches went over various defensive and offensive positions or until the pizza arrived. After that the kids were allowed to play whatever they wanted, some played basketball but after a little while everyone was playing hockey including the coaches. Everyone had a good workout before we headed onto the ice for our practice.

All in all the day went well, it was great for the team to get together for something other than hockey and was great for building us into a team.

Thank you to all the coaches (and Paul) for your help throughout the day.
